While the general layout and renovation plans have been decided, much more detailed design will take place after the funding votes. The facade and materials will all be chosen in the next phase of the project.
The new classroom area will be open for the start of the 2029/2030 school year. This will be the senior year of the current 8th grade class.
This project budget is actually lower than many similar projects when compared apples to apples (dollars per square foot). It also contains many contingencies to hedge against future inflation. Any money not spent on the project will be returned to the town and not reflected in tax bills.
The estimated project budget is not to exceed $335,000,000. This money will be borrowed by the town. This is a very reasonable amount for a high school building project in Massachusetts that will not start until 2027. The individual annual tax increase depends on the assessed value of your home. (This number can be found on your tax bill.) The full tax increase will not be reflected until the FY 2031 tax bill.
